Tickets
You can buy tickets for single trips at the ticket offices at the stations in Roskilde and Copenhagen. For frequent travels, it's best to use a "klippekort", a ticket (or combination of tickets) which can be time stamped 10 times. Ask at the station for the number of zones and cards which is the best for your purposes.
When you have stamped you "klippekort", it will be valid for a certain period (1 to 2 hours depending on combinations) for all trains (avoid IC), including S-trains (Copenhagen and suburbs), and busses.
You (and your accompanying persons) should also consider the Copenhagen Card which gives free transportation for a number of days (different choices) and gives you free entry to a large number of museums and other sights.
There is no ticket office at Trekroner station, only a ticket mackine (quite often out of order) but you can stamp your "klippekort" here.
If you are in a hurry, it is possible to buy the ticket at the train for a small additional fee. (Except for the S-trains, where you need a ticket in advance).
Monitors at the stations
Train departures and arrivals are announced on central monitors at the stations, however, only the terminal station is mentioned. You will need to locate the monitors by the tracks some minutes before departure to verify that this train actually stops in Trekroner or Roskilde.Trains from Copenhagen in the direction of Roskilde (and Trekroner) usually have final destination Roskilde, Holbæk, Kalundborg, Ringsted, Odense, or Korsør.
Trains from Roskilde in the direction of Copenhagen (and Trekroner) have destinations København H, Østerport or Nørreport.
